In 1994, Russia, the U.S. and the U.K. signed the "Budapest Memorandum" which required Ukraine to give up it's nuclear weapons to Russia in exchange for "loose assurances" instead of concrete security guarantees. Recently, former President Bill Clinton said he regretted this decision. We regret it too. If Ukraine was not pressured to transfer it's 1900 nuclear warheads to Russia for reasons which were not actually imminent, the country probably could have avoided massive devastation and a worldwide humanitarian crisis, and the world would probably not face the most dangerous nuclear threat on the planet which is posed by Russia today.
